1. Introduction
This Cookie Policy explains how SelfMap AI ("we," "our," or "us") uses cookies, tracking technologies, and similar technologies when you use our mobile application and related services ("Service"). This policy should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.
Note:
SelfMap AI is NOT a medical, clinical, or healthcare service. The Service does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult qualified healthcare professionals for medical concerns. For emergencies, contact 911 or your local emergency number.
2. What Are Cookies and Similar Technologies?
2.1 Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website or use an app. While our mobile app may not use traditional browser cookies, we use similar tracking technologies that serve similar purposes.
2.2 Tracking Technologies We Use
In our mobile application, we use various technologies that function similarly to cookies:
- Local Storage - Data stored on your device for app functionality
- Session Storage - Temporary data stored during app sessions
- Device Identifiers - Unique identifiers for your device
- Authentication Tokens - Secure tokens for maintaining login sessions
- Analytics Identifiers - Anonymous identifiers for usage analytics
3. How We Use Cookies and Tracking Technologies
3.1 Essential Technologies (Strictly Necessary)
These are required for the Service to function properly and cannot be disabled:
3.1.1 Authentication and Security
- Purpose: Maintain your login session and ensure security
- Type: Authentication tokens stored securely via Firebase Authentication
- Storage: Encrypted local storage on your device
- Duration: Session-based or until you log out
- Example: Firebase Auth persistence tokens
3.1.2 App Preferences
- Purpose: Remember your app settings and preferences
- Type: Local storage for notification settings, theme preferences
- Storage: Device local storage (AsyncStorage)
- Duration: Until you delete the app or clear app data
- Example: Notification preferences, timezone settings
3.1.3 Session Management
- Purpose: Maintain your active session and prevent repeated logins
- Type: Session identifiers and tokens
- Storage: Secure, encrypted local storage
- Duration: While app is active, up to extended session periods
- Example: Firebase session tokens
3.2 Analytics and Performance
We use the following services to understand app usage and improve performance:
Firebase Analytics (Google)
- Purpose: App usage, feature adoption, crash reporting
- Data: Device info, app events, usage patterns
- Retention: Up to 26 months
- Opt-out: Device settings
- Privacy: policies.google.com/privacy
PostHog
- Purpose: Product analytics, feature usage
- Data: App events, user journeys, device info
- Retention: Up to 12 months
- Opt-out: Device settings
- Privacy: posthog.com/privacy

4. Your Choices and Controls
4.1 In-App Controls
Currently, most tracking controls are managed through your device settings (see Section 5.2 below).
You can control:
- Notification Settings: Control push notification delivery through your device settings
- App Permissions: Manage what data the app can access through device settings
Note: Additional in-app privacy controls are planned for future updates.
4.2 Device-Level Controls
For iOS Users:
- Settings → Privacy → Tracking: Control app tracking (iOS 14.5+)
- Settings → [App Name]: Manage permissions and data
For Android Users:
- Settings → Apps → [App Name]: Manage app permissions
- Settings → Privacy: Control app tracking and data sharing
4.3 Disabling Technologies
Most analytics and tracking can be controlled through your device settings (see Section 5.2 above).
Important Notes:
- Essential technologies (authentication, app functionality) cannot be disabled
- Analytics tracking can be limited through device-level controls
- Disabling notifications prevents important reminders and updates
4.4 Clearing Data
You can clear stored data by:
- Uninstalling and reinstalling the app
- Clearing app data through device settings
- Deleting your account (removes all associated data)
Note: Clearing data will log you out and reset app preferences.
5. Mobile App Considerations
Since SelfMap AI is a mobile application (not a website), we do not use traditional HTTP cookies that websites use. Instead, we use mobile app storage, device identifiers for notifications and analytics, and secure tokens for authentication.
6. Data Retention
- Local app data: Until you delete the app or clear data
- Analytics data: 12-26 months depending on service
- Authentication tokens: Until logout or expiration
See our Privacy Policy for complete data retention information.

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect:
- Changes in technology we use
- Updates to third-party services
- Legal or regulatory requirements

9. Children's Privacy
