1. Introduction

Motivate ("we," "us," "our," or the "Company") operates the Motivate: Quotes Made for You mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our App and related services. The services offered through Motivate include personalized AI-generated motivational quotes, a curated quote library, daily streak tracking, customizable themes, home screen widgets, and quote saving and sharing features — all powered by AI processing of the personal profile information you provide during onboarding.

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, please do not use our App. By accessing and using Motivate, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by all the provisions of this Privacy Policy.

2. Information We Collect

Information You Provide Directly

Profile Information: During onboarding, you provide personal context to personalize your quote feed, including: your first name or chosen display name, age range, gender, life stage, relationship status, the type of motivation you are seeking, focus areas and subcategories you care about, personal challenges, stress responses, recovery preferences, aspirational identity traits, and current mood.

Path-Specific Information: Depending on the path you select during onboarding, you may provide additional context such as a goal you are working toward, a specific moment or event you are preparing for, a habit you are trying to maintain, what a good day looks like for you, or what you find most challenging about your mental health. Some of these inputs are free-text fields you fill in voluntarily.

Engagement Data: When you like, save, or share a quote, this interaction is stored to refine future quote recommendations.

Information Collected Automatically

Anonymous User ID: When you first open the App, Firebase Authentication creates an anonymous unique identifier for your account. We do not collect your email address, phone number, or real name.

Device Information: Device model, operating system version, App version, and time zone.

App Usage Data: Which quotes you view, like, save, and share; how long you spend in the App; which themes and fonts you select; your daily streak; and general interaction patterns within the App.

Permission Status: We collect information about whether you have granted photo library access (used only when you save a quote image) and your App Tracking Transparency response.

Analytics and Performance Data: Via PostHog (product analytics) and Firebase, we collect non-identifying usage metrics and error logs to improve App stability and performance.

Third-Party Information

Meta/Facebook SDK: If you arrive at our App through a Meta advertisement, Meta's SDK may collect device identifiers and attribution data for advertising measurement purposes, as described in Meta's privacy policy. You can opt out via Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt.

We do not use your data for advertising purposes within the App. The App contains no ads.

4. Third-Party Services

Analytics Platforms

• PostHog: We use PostHog to track App usage, feature adoption, and user behavior. PostHog processes event data tied to your anonymous user ID.
• Firebase: Google's Firebase is used for anonymous authentication, database storage (Firestore), and Cloud Functions for quote generation. Firebase may collect diagnostic information about App performance.

AI and Insights Providers

Personalized quote generation is processed by OpenAI's API. Your onboarding profile data is sent to OpenAI as context for generating quotes. OpenAI does not use this data to train their models per their API terms.

Integrated Advertising & Attribution

• Meta/Facebook SDK: The App integrates Meta's SDK for advertising attribution and event tracking purposes related to paid acquisition campaigns. Meta may use this data for app analytics and ad attribution. See Meta's privacy policy for details.
• Apple SKAdNetwork: Apple's privacy-preserving attribution framework is used to measure ad campaign effectiveness without tracking individual users.

We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties for their direct marketing purposes. Third-party service providers are contractually obligated to use your information only as necessary to provide services to us.

5. Data Storage & Security

Data Storage

• Your profile information, quote history, and engagement data are stored on secure Firestore servers hosted on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest using industry-standard protocols.
• Some preferences are also stored locally on your device using iOS UserDefaults for fast access.

Security Measures

• We implement industry-standard encryption, secure authentication (Firebase Auth), and access controls to protect your data.
• However, no security system is completely impenetrable. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security against unauthorized access, hacking, or data breaches.

Data Retention

• We retain your account data as long as your account remains active.
• Your profile, saved quotes, and engagement history are retained indefinitely unless you request deletion.
• If you request account deletion, your profile information and associated data will be removed, but limited records may be retained for compliance purposes for a limited time.

6. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information:

• Access: You can request access to the personal information we hold about you.
• Correction: You can request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information. Most profile fields can be updated directly in the App's Settings.

• Tracking Opt-Out: You can decline App Tracking Transparency at any time via iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking → Motivate.

Motivate is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete such information immediately. If you are aware of a child under 13 using Motivate, please contact us immediately.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, and other factors. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated Privacy Policy in the App and updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy. Your continued use of the App following the posting of a revised Privacy Policy means you accept and agree to the changes.

9. Data Breach Notification

In the event of a confirmed data breach that compromises your personal information, we will notify affected users without unreasonable delay through prominent notification in the App. Notifications will describe the nature of the breach, the types of information affected, and the steps we are taking to address the breach and prevent future incidents.
